The story begins in 1920s Birmingham, UK when a young Tomas (Tommy) Shelby returns from the war after fighting the French to take care of the family business run, in his absence, by his aunt Polly Gray. However, once he reaches his land, everything is trouble. Running a criminal business is not an easy task, especially if the psychological consequences of being at war are still present.
